TWELVE HOLES OF SEBRING GOLF TOURNAMENT
MARCH 12, 2005

A note from Renee on the golf tournament:  As I am finishing packing for the Lifesavers Conference, I wanted to let you know that the tournament was great.  At the 12 Holes of Sebring there were 140 golfers.  We made $650.00 in hole sponsors and close to $600.00 in raffle tickets.  Thanks to all who put in the time and effort to make this possible.  Here is some good news...We have another $700 coming to us.  That puts us at $1950.  I think that sounds  much better than $1250.  I'll go down and get the signs and the check on Friday. MOVE OVER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Law enforcement agencies in Highlands County joined forces during this counties first "Mover Over Awareness campaign meant to give attention to Floridas Law

THE HIGHLANDS COUNTY COMMUNITY TRAFFIC SAFETY TEAM launched a countywide effort that resulted in a five law enforcement agency enforcement task force at one point.  The team resorted to education and enforcement to increase awareness of the Florida Law .    The “Move Over Act” was designed to protect law enforcement and other emergency workers on our highways.  During the five-year period of 1996-2000, motorists in Florida crashed into working law enforcement vehicles that were stopped/parked along Florida roadways 1,793 times resulting in five deaths and 419 injuries.
Provisions included in the law require motorists to approach cautiously when an emergency vehicle is stopped ahead with its lights flashing. Motorists must change lanes away from the emergency vehicle if they are on a multi-lane highway and can safely do so. If drivers cannot change lanes safely or they are on a two-lane highway, they must slow down to a speed that is 20 MPH less than the posted speed limit when the posted speed limit is 25 MPH or greater; or travel at 5 MPH when the posted speed limit is 20 MPH or less. (see attached FSS 316.125) This campaign is part of the Safety Team's ongoing efforts to promote traffic safety.
